Are you in or out of your mind?

We're not talking crazy here. Your mind isn't what you think and neither are you. Learn why.

Humans have three functional minds, not one. And no—I'm not talking about Freud's Id, Ego, Superego...or conscious, subconscious, unconscious models. Or MacLean's reptilian, limbic or neocortex model. Or even Berne's Parent, Adult, Child model, though all of these have relevance.

I'm talking about something more subtle, found within the kundalini tradition. In this tradition, the masters refer to the negative, positive and neutral minds. All three aspects are essential to our wellbeing, and how they develop in each person is very different. Yet when these three aspects of mind are strong and in balance, we are said to have an enlightened mind.

Our negative mind is the protective, reactive, alert aspect that keeps us safe and is bent on our survival. Our positive mind is the active, courageous aspect that seeks pleasure, opportunity, fulfillment, and is bent on our expansion. These two aspects are the keepers of our socio-cultural conditioning, for better or for worse. I like to refer to them together as our conditioned mind. They reflect our ego drives and desires, and are the carriers of the endless thought streams we are subject to all day every day.

Then there's our neutral mind, the aspect that is unattached to a specific outcome. Our neutral mind assesses thoughts of the other two aspects in light of our higher self. This aspect of our mind is calm, creative and even meditative. It provides our intuitive and compassionate perspective, the one that is the most desirable way to conduct our lives for survival and thriving.

I like to refer to the neutral mind aspect as our heart mind because it is detached from socio-cultural conditioning and instead, seems rooted in the purity of our source energy. Yet wading through our negative and positive minds—which amplify our human bullshit—to access our neutral mind takes awareness and dedication. But anything worth doing takes awareness and dedication...and likely makes us a little uncomfortable at first. However, the discomfort vanishes the deeper we go into our neutral mind.

Once our eyes open and we see how out of control our negative and positive minds have become in our ignorance, it's easy to find the motivation to take back control of what's happening inside. It's not hard when we have the right transition tools to help us. But tools aside, we first need a clear and comprehensive understanding of what we're dealing with so we understand how and why the tools we're using work.

This book—Kundalini Meditation: A comprehensive guide for beginners and beyond—is not just another meditation book. It deconstructs the workings of our mind, our chakras, our psyche, and how our life force drives the intricacies of our physical body systems so we know exactly what we're dealing with, why we feel tired, uninspired, foggy or sluggish, and what we can do to clean our system for a lift. And then it gives us the tools we need to do so. It's that simple.
