The state of things

For many of us, a hard question to answer these days is, "How are you doing?"

The energy around us is sometimes stifling and sometimes opening. Many of us find ourselves in a deeply emotional space reflecting on the parts of life that aren’t where we want them to be and on the parts of life that we are deeply grateful for. Perhaps we might chuckle about something in one moment and then in the next, tears well up in our eyes about something else.

Safety and control

If we can expand into all of it, we have a chance to break down the mental compartments in our mind that cling to a sense of control in our quest for safety. At this point in our human evolution, there’s no place for that battle. It's a wasteful endeavor. We cannot control all things at all times forever. Nor do we need to. In fact, trying to drains our energy and personal power, locking us into a constant inner struggle. Something will eventually implode or explode, leaving us feeling devastated.

A more useful approach might be to revisit, review, and redefine our notions of safety and control. Doing so won't leave us unsafe or out of control. Quite the opposite. Updating our notions of safety and control within a current and realistic context can help us focus our energy on choices that can actually have a positive impact in our lives. Through this process we may find an expanded sense of safety and a more comfortable sense of control, while at the same time, creating room for compassion and Grace to enter our hearts, two immensely healing, harmonizing, and unifying principles.

Many things are not within our immediate control, yet there are other things that are...like how we connect with, respond to, and interact with the people, places and things around us. We can control that. Or how we use our resources to support the things we believe in. We can control that. Or how we share ourselves with the world. We can control that. And who we let into our inner circle. We can control that. Or what we do with our personal power in this moment. We can control that.

The complexities of life

Not everything in this life will go the way we want it to. It can be quite challenging and complex, yet it can also be stunningly amazing. Life is all of it, the things we can control and the things we can’t, the things we love and the things we don’t, the things we embrace and the things we reject.

At some point, rest and peace come through a surrender into something beyond our control and comprehension. Life is what it is and perhaps everything we encounter along our journey is relevant for the evolution of our soul and the greater Soul of Life in the highest order of things. Anyway, I think it’s all pretty freaking miraculous in the end.

Happy Trails!
